UPCE Scholarship Program
Good day members of the UPCE,
As previously mentioned, the Union of Postal Communications Employees has created its own scholarship program for UPCE members and their children. This is in addition to any existing Public Service Alliance of Canada scholarships that may be available.
The $2,000 UPCE Scholarship Program, is available to all UPCE members in good standing at the time of application (and their children), who are enrolled at a post-secondary institution.
Program Guidelines
The UPCE will accept submissions until July 31, 2020. All the recipients should receive notification of the award no later than September 30, 2020.
A $2,000 scholarship will be available to a member (or a child of a member) enrolled in a full- time program. A member (or their child) enrolled in a part-time program, will only be entitled to half of the scholarship ($1,000). In a case like this, the second half of the scholarship ($1,000) will be disbursed to the second-place applicant.
The scholarship will be awarded based on the merit of an essay of 500 words or more to a maximum of 750 words as it relates to one (1) of the topics chosen from the list provided. The applicant will need to draw links between the chosen topic and the labour movement. Essays of less than 500 words will be disqualified.
The scholarship can be awarded for any program that is accredited by a post-secondary institution.
In order to and before being awarded the scholarship, the recipient must provide both proof of enrolment, and proof of payment, from the post-secondary institution. Please also note that the applicant to whom the scholarship is awarded will need to provide her or his Social Insurance Number (SIN) before the award can be disbursed. The SIN is required in order to issue a T4A for taxation purposes.
At this time, once an applicant is awarded a UPCE scholarship, they are excluded from applying again for future such UPCE scholarships.
In solidarity,
UPCE National Executive
